| I have never awaited a
figure as impatiently as I waited for the Cephalyx Slaver. As
a loyal fan of Privateer Press' Iron Kingdoms game world, there's
nothing I like more than a good old fashioned Cephalyx attack.
These floating, black-clad mysterious villains are some of the
most compelling figures in the role-playing world, and are the
source of incessant speculation (in both the RPG and in real life)....

Their release as part of the Warmachine line was a double blessing.
Not only do I get to menace players in my campaign with these
finely-crafted figures, but I also get to watch them take the
field (or table) in the miniatures game. The pre-release photographs
were beautiful – matching the sinister illustration of the
Cephalyx. My only concern (thus the impatience) – would
the figure manage to meet my ridiculously inflated expectations?
Yes. It did. The Cephalyx is a gorgeous
miniature. It is well-molded and easy to assemble. Beware that
all four of the scalpel-topped arms are very delicate, and too
small to pin whilst assembling. It takes a little work to get
onto a base as well – especially if you're trying to imitate
the foxy 'floating' effect shown on the box.
The Drudges are good, solid, one-piece models. There's only one
duplicate in the box, which is nice, and it takes very little
effort to get them onto bases and get them fully painted. My only
disappointment is that they were only single-piece models –
these are figures that practically beg for creative conversion
opportunities, which would be much easier to pull off if they
came with arms on sprues.
In Warmachine, the Cephalyx and the Drudges are an expensive,
but extremely flexible unit, with a host of unusual and potent
attacks. They're hardy and very flexible in their skills and powers,
making them an extremely nasty and self-sufficient force. Tactically,
the key is to protect the Cephalyx from danger. As you can imagine,
the mindless Drudges only exist to serve their sinister masters.
Fortunately, the floating nasty has a few tricks up its own sleeve
as well…
